Notes
Abraham Beery was born in 1736 near York, PA. He was a farmer and owned many acres of land in Winchester township, York Co, PA. In 1781, in accordance with his religious principles, Abraham refused to take an oath while paying his property taxes and was taxed double. He and his brothers were each fined 3.10 pounds because they refused to serve with the military forces during the Revolutionary War. The Mennonites did not believe in war; today they would be called conscientious objectors.
Abraham married Elizabeth Gochenour (also spelled Gochenauer). (Elizabeth's brother John married Abraham's sister Barbara.) Abraham and Elizabeth had seven children; Abraham, Nicholas, John, Jacob, George, and Magdalena and Christian who were twins. Sometime after 1790, Abraham and Elizabeth moved to Rockingham County, VA and settled near Cross Keys. Their sons had previously followed their uncle Nicholas to very fertile land there. Abraham died in 1799 and is buried there in the Union Church Cemetery. Elizabeth then made her home with her son Abraham. She died in 1800 and was buried in the Lindale Mennonite church cemetery near Edom, VA. Her tombstone says, "Mother of John Beery, died 1800."

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Abraham by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Abraham:
Thanks, Al for noting the inconsistencies. I agree with Darlene - 1736 fits with his siblings and is the date given in The Beery History by Garber. I also agree with the 1760 marriage date based on the ages of the children.
Hi Al, the dates are estimates. However, the birth date, in my opinion, was c 1736. This is the date shown in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Mennonite Vital Records, 1750-2014. As to date of marriage, I show it as c 1760 due to the dates of birth of his children.
It seems the only date in this biography that is consistent is the death date of 1799. Birth dates range from 1728 to 1736. The only date to work with the marriage date, 1749, is the 1728 date which is not listed in any of the sources, only at the name line at the beginning of the profile. I spent some time trying to sort it out and have resorted to writing this comment. I hope there is someone that can straighten this profile out.
He is my 6th great Uncle and I have different dates on my Ancestry tree. Not much help to straighten this out. Thanks in advance for any help.
