Biography

The existence of a Judith Blott, daughter of Robert is based on a disproven theory. In Robert Blott (abt.1584-bef.1665)'s will, he leaves a bequest to the children of his daughter Tozier. The will also specifically bequeaths to daughter Tozier's "eldest son John Green Cloth" for a coat. The meaning of Green is unfortunately unclear, perhaps meaning the cloth was green, or that her eldest son was a John Green from a previous marriage. While uncertain, it opened up the possibility of a first marriage to a ________ Green, and a daughter ________ (Blott) (Green) Tozier, who researchers attempted to identify.

The wife of Richard Tozier was Judith Smith not Blott: As there were not many Toziers in New England, researchers looked to Richard Tozier of Kittery, Maine, who was married to a Judith, and proposed that she was a daughter of Robert Blott. An English will showed that Richard Tozier's wife was Judith Smith, clearly not Judith Blott, and the marriage record referring to her as Judith Smith, a previous marriage to a Green was not possible.

John Green was not married to Judith Blott: Having at one time been identified as the daughter _____ (Blott) (Green) Tozier, a Judith Blott has been associated with John Green of Maine in an attempt to identify the first marriage. John Green's known wife is Julian. In some cases they have been proposed to be the same person, in other cases two separate marriages. These facts are inconsistent with the original theory, which has now been disproven. There is no known association between the Judith Tozier and John Green.

Research Notes

No reliable sources have been found showing that Judith Blott existed. No reliable sources showing she was a daughter of Robert Blott have been found. No marriage records for Judith Blott and John Green (abt.1624-aft.1682) have been found. John Green married a woman named Julian, whose last name is unknown.

From comment by M. Cole on Robert Blott (abt.1584-bef.1665) “Robert's will references a daughter "Tozier" and bequeaths to her eldest son "John Green Cloth to make a coat." Anderson offers two interpretations, one is that eldest son John [Tozier] was bequeathed "green cloth" and the other that her eldest son was "John Green" from a previous marriage. As there are not many Toziers in New England, people looked to Richard Tozier of Kittery, Maine who was married to Judith, proposing she was Judith Blott, daughter of Robert. Later evidence was found in England identifying her as Judith Smith, clearly naming her as Judith Tozier wife of Richard, and disproving the theory of "Judith Blott."
