Hi all, my name is kelvin, but please call me Kel. I'm the eldest of nine (9) siblings. My father was adoted at birth, I feel certain this is not an isolated case. My mother from mainly Cornish background, contrary to family beliefs. My aim is to collaborate with you and for you in finding both my Patriarchal and Matriarcal family lines and adding my data to your trees if applicable. I'm a retiree so I do have sometime to add in this forums database.

Cheers

Hi Kel,

I noticed your note about your father being adopted. There are some options for the way to set up his profile, depending on whether he is still living. If so, the help page for setting up profiles for adoptees explains a lot of options that you have and how to get some additional help. It's written as if you were the adoptee but the process is the same for any living person.

If your father is not living, there is a page on profile set up for historical adoptions.

Please do let me know if you have any questions about how WikiTree works, no matter how small. My rule of thumb when I started was to search for an answer for five minutes, then reach out to my Greeters, and then resume searching. I might have found the answer before they got back with me but they sometimes offered a different way of doing the same thing which was easier.

You can reach me by using the reply link for this comment or send a private message from my profile by clicking my name. See you in the branches,

Thank you Laura for your warm welcome. I'm probably like a lot of our members, in that I have been wandering from different genealogical dataset sites in the hope of expanding my knowledge, not only my direct family tree, but also the sub - branches which feed into my tree to give me and my family a greater awareness of our ancestors, their names, their families, what they did, how they lived, loved, and any interests.

Looking forward to being not only a taker, but a worthwhile contributor to this resourse portal and it's members.

Hi Laura,

I dont if you remember reaching out to my on commencement of my WikiTree adventure, but I feel I may have made a big error with my data collection. If you have a moment, would you mind having a look at my question.

I created my tree as normal including my fathers biological mother, no father as he was adopted.

I then tried to follow the non biological side (my fathers adoptive parents). Even though I ticked the non biological father button on creating this profile, it linked him with the birth mother, and some of her siblings. I have included all profiles:

What I would like to do is continue on with my research into my adopted family if possible, or, do I abandon this approach, and create a new tree and profile under my adoptive family (grand-fathers) name, with a new profile ID, and go from there?

I have included profile ID's for your information. If you are unable to assist, could you point me in the right direction, as have tried explaining it on GEO2, but I can't get my question across in so few message charactors.

Father (Adopted): Hill-41059 Birth mother: Hill-40863 Adoptive parent, referred to as grand-father: Burke-9510

Thank you.

Hi Kel,

You don't have to start over. I am sending you an email explaining how you can correct it. There is also a way to keep them attached without them being connected and I explained that too. If you have any trouble or have any questions let me know. I will be happy to help.

I do need you to please edit your comment and remove your email address. WikiTree is a public site and accessible by non-members. Emails and addresses showing put you at risk for spam and other unwanted things. Thanks.

Laura

PS: I apologize, I accidentally commented instead of clicking reply to your comment 2 hrs ago. It was not showing as a reply so, I am adding it as a reply now to correct that.
