John Rufus Butter was born 25 November 1879 in what is now Forest Hill, Louisiana. He was the son of William Butter and Emily Graham. [1]
In 1900 John R. Butter is 20 years old and still living at home with his parents. He is employed as a "Teamster". This involved driving a wagon pulled by mules or horses. Since John lived in central Louisiana, he would have been employed this way by a sawmill. His wagon and team of animals would have been hauling logs.[2]
John married Mary Frances "Fannie" Duck in 1901.
John and Fannie Butter are in the 1910 census with six children from eight down to zero years. Fannie says she has had six children and all six are living. John is a farmer and 30 years old. Fannie is 25 years old and they have been married for nine years. [3]
John R. Butter passed away 4 January 1978 in his hometown, Forest Hill, Louisiana at the age of 98 and is buried in the Butters Cemetery. [4]
