John was the son of Richard Callaway and Elizabeth Jones Callaway.[1]
Like his sisters, Elizabeth and Frances, Jack was also captured by Indians, with his half-brother James Hoy, about two years after the death of his father. The two boys were not returned as quickly as Jack's sisters, and were not seen again for many years.[2]
One source gives 9 Feb 1796 as their marriage date. Another source says that legend is that he died young and unmarried about and does not mention a wife. He is thought to have migrated from Bedford County, Virginia to Kentucky soon after the same emigration by brother Flanders.[3]
Research Notes
A parent should not have been born more than 170 years before one of their children died. This would mean that even if the parent gave birth at 70, the child lived to be over 100.

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
Found a correction for the mother of Callaway-138 on the Callaway Family Association website. Margaret Wells is the wife of John's brother, Richard, Jr. and Elizabeth Jones Callaway is his mother.
Callaway-143 and Callaway-138 appear to represent the same person because: They are obviously the same person. I would suggest sourcing the profile to prove the correct mother. Instead of setting it to and UN matched merge. The messy tangle of profiles has been clogging up the line for quite awhile now. Please do this merge thank you
Callaway-143 and Callaway-335 appear to represent the same person because: Please merge Callaway-335 into Callaway-143 . Callaway-335 is an empty profile and unconnected.
Please ensure that Parents are merged first
