Biography

Donald (Cameron) Cameron XI of Cameron is a member of Clan Cameron.

11th Chief Of Clan Cameron Donald Dubh, who lived in the 15th century, is considered to be their first authentic chief and, since 1528, the clan chief of Lochaber has been called Lochiel. He generally had the support of Cameron sub-clans nearby, such as the Camerons of Letterfinlay, Strone, Glen Nevis, and later of Erracht. These various Camerons were often described as "fiercer than fierceness itself." Traditionally the 11th Cameron Chief of Lochiel.[1]

Rose up in support of MacDonald, Lord of the Isles at the Battle of Harlaw in 1411. Believed to have been at the Battle of Corpach in 1439. The MacFarlane Clan and Families Geneology website states that:

"Donald Dubh, XI Captain and Chief of Clan Cameron was soon recalled from his exile in Ireland "by the groans of his people," (resulting from the relentless attack upon Cameron lands by Alexander, Lord of the Isles) and led his forces in defending the Cameron lands from the Macleans."

They list two children by an unknown daughter of the MacMartin clan, heiress of Letterfinlay:

1. daughter Cameron who married Donald MacDonald, 3rd of Keppoch.
2. Allan MacDonald Dubh 'nan Creach' Cameron, b. Abt 1448

Please merge into Cameron-288 last name at birth is Cameron NOT Cameron of Lochiel, see Help:Name_Fields_for_European_Aristocrats.
Cameron of Lochiel-1 and Cameron-288 appear to represent the same person because: both husband of wife Macmartin .

Please merge into last name at birth of Cameron NOT Cameron of Lochiel-1 see Help:Name_Fields_for_European_Aristocrats

Cameron-704 and Cameron of Lochiel-1 appear to represent the same person because: SAME NAME, Cameron last name at birth, same spouse, same time frame
Cameron-704 and Cameron of Lochiel-1 are not ready to be merged because: I will need to do a little research.
