My Carrothers ancestors came to America in 1803. They are descended from James Carrothers. ~ James Carrothers and his wife had both died in Ireland, which was at Enniskillen, County Fermanagh. About two years after their death, their three sons decided to come to America, which they did in 1803. It is believed these were the only children of James, no other brothers or sisters left in Ireland. These three sons, in order of age, were John, George, and William. All were single and they came over together on the same ship as far as Canada. There was a war brewing in Ireland and they came to America to escape the draft. John located in Canada and lived and died there. George and William came together to Washington County, Pennsylvania, and were in the distilling business. George then moved to Harrison County, Ohio. Nothing further is known about William.
The members of my Carrothers family migrated westerly to Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, California and Texas.
