Biography

Ann was born 7 January 1799 at Norfolk Island.[1] She married Thomas Williams in Hobart and had 8 children together.. She was the daughter of Thomas Chaffey and Maria Israel.

Linc Tas Marriage Record No 298: Ann's surname recorded as Cheffey. She is 19 and Thomas is 22. Witnesses were Elizabeth Williams and David W Bush.

Ann and Thomas' marriage appeared to have significant problems as reported in newspapers at the time. Thomas advertised in March 1828 that he would not be responsible for " treat or credit" given to his wife. Ann was bound over to keep the peace towards Thomas also in 1828.

Ann's date of death was unknown, some ancestry sites recording a death date before that of her husband Thomas. However she was named as a witness at the inquest of her husband Thomas death in 1844 so obviously very much alive!

In 1846 an Ann Williams, widow, 40, married George Jones aged 28, a Sawyer. This Ann died 4th January 1886 Sandy Bay. In her 96th Year. Death Notice for JONES: On 4th January 1886, Sandy Bay, Ann, the beloved husband of George Jones, and sister of Mrs. Espie, De Witt St Battery Point.

(Mrs Espie is Maria Mary Ann Chaffey, who had first married Richard Garth. Widowed, she then married Edward Espie).

Ann Jones was a witness to the marriage of Mary Ann Williams, aged 19, to John Smith 28, a Sawyer on 24th September 1854. The other witness was Charles Price who was probably the husband of Susan Williams. (Susan and Charles Price and family move to in New Zealand).
