Biography

Henry was the son of William Chauncey and his wife who had the last name at birth Garland. His birth date is uncertain. He may have been born at Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire where his father had property.[1][2][3][4]

Henry married Joan Tendring.[1][2][4][3][5] They had six children:

  • William,[1][2][4] who married Bridget, daughter of John Raymond[3][5] and was an executor of his mother's will[6]
  • Alexander,[1][2][4] who married Mary, daughter of John Raymond[3] and was an executor of his mother's will[6]
  • Elizabeth, who married Richard Huberd:[1][2][4] both were named in the will of Henry's wife Joan[6]
  • Mary, who married someone with the last name Pille:[1][2][4] Mary is described as daughter "Marye Pylle" in her mother's will and a Richard Pille named in the will may be her husband[6]
  • a daughter whose first name is unknown who married someone with the last name Goddaie:[1][2] the husband's last name is given in her mother's will[6]
  • a daughter whose first name is not known, who married someone with the last name Bright/Bryghte:[1][2][4] the husband's last name is given in her mother's will[6]

Henry was named in the will, dated 1520, of his uncle John Chauncy.[1][2][4]

Henry died in 1558. His will, dated 6 February 1557/8, was proved on 5 October 1558.[1][2][4] In it he bequeathed to his brother John a lease of the parsonage of Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire.[4] His wife Joan survived him: she was a beneficiary and overseer of her brother Robert's 1562 will, and her own will was dated 7 November 1562.[1][2][4][6]

This profile is in a Richardson-documented trail from Gateway Ancestor Mabel Harlakenden to sureties Roger and Hugh le Bigod that needs re-development by the project. I will soon be adding the Magna Carta Project as co-manager of this profile, along with a project box and a Magna Carta section under the Acknowlegements heading. Thanks!
