carolyn john cherry again 1948. im sure we are cousins ! david 1801 is where the problem comes begins. research shows the confusion here. two lines. one line goes to davids father is john riley 1773 and his father as robert cherry 1720. this line takes you to south carolina 1750s- the other line takes you to jacob cherry 1752 through virginia colony. so the big question is which father is davids 1801. jacob 1752 virginia or john cherry 1773 , chester south carol[na. both lines go back to picardie france 1350. go figure !!! hope you have the time to clear this up.

Carolyn, would you mind adding yourself to the category [Hugo Award Winners]? We are working to set up profiles for all those who have won this award and would love to have you included with the others. Thank you.

Hi Carolyn,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles!

It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

It is the Autosomal DNA that is most useful for genealogy research. I found someone on Gedmatch who had ancestors for my Murray ancestor in Scotland. The Murray clan is evidently a major clan in Scottish history and shows up as the charaacter Ian Murray in The book series Outlander.

No DNA? I find it helpful if put on Gedmatch. Never now whose tree you will match.

I have MT-DNA through Ancestry which validates the lately-added Georgia Gertrude Scantlan line ---and a big thank you to everyone who worked on that project!---I'm specifically H5b, with roots in ancient Syria, and travel via the farmer cultures that made it to Europe by the Southern Route. My brother David took the Y-DNA test, and is G-M201.... a trail that began in the Caucasus and reached France via northern Germany---my guess is Carolingians. I don't know how or where to enter these, but they're there on Ancestry---or were: the whole upper part of my paternal line is suddenly missing, and this may be a glitch---or an accidental erasure. I do have paper records, so it's not a panic.
Curious how to enter people....eg, my paternal great-grandfather, third-great, etc. Do I search Wiki for a number?

I understand and will abide by the rules. My actual name is Carolyn Cherry. I used to teach history, specialty in the Ancient Med, Ancient Europe. I've been doing genealogy for some time, and have run down a fair few of my lines, some of which have extensive research behind them, some of which I seem to be the only one working on. I'll help where I can.

hello Carolyn, My line goes through myself 1948, johnnie 1927, woody 1901, allen 1869, william 1840, david 1801 . however there is confusion. the line i have always worked through after david 1801 is john 1773 and robert 1720. this line is from antrim ireland. david cherry 1690, now starts the confusion. the other line is showing jacob 1752 suppossibly the father of robert coming through virginia colony. my line came through south carolina about 1750. Im guessing that you are familiar with this contradiction. there is a lot of disagreement. i know we are all closely related. my father johnnie 1927 all lived in comanche, okl. earlier sherman/ denison, texas. my email is [email address removed]

Happy to do, but the honor code troubles me, because it seems to preclude mistakes, which I am sure I make and I don't promise to be infallible. OTOH, I will just mark my entries as tentative or the like, which will perhaps at least give a clue to those interested.
