Edmund Francis Clark was born 14 September 1848 and was baptised on 30 October 1848 at Saint Helier, Jersey[1]. He was the son of John Clark and Charlotte Sophia Dalrymple. His father was a Lieutenant Colonel in the 54th Regiment of Foot.

In the 1861 England Census, Edmund T J Clark (aged 12) was recorded living with his father John Clark (61, Major General Army), his mother Charlotte T Clark (44) and his siblings Charlotte T Clark (23), Margaret H M Clark (16), Henry W Clark (9), Evelyn H D Clark (4) and Julian W S Clark (2) at 62 Landsdowne Place, Hove, Sussex. Also in the household was one servant, Ann W Collin (25).
His mother Charlotte died on 17 December 1864 at age 48, and his father Major General John Clark died three months later, on 22 March 1865 at about age 63.
Edmund joined the Military, attaining the rank of Captain and Adjutant with the North West Mounted Police in Canada.
He was aged about 32 when he married 20 year Frances May Cockburn (the daughter of Canadian Politician James Cockburn and his wife Isabella Susan Patterson) on 20 April 1880 at Christ's Church in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada[2].
They went on to have one son; Edmund James Dalrympe Clarke (b. 16 Jan 1881)
Sadly Captain Edmund Francis Dalrymple Clark passed away on 2 October 1880, three months before the birth of his only son. He was buried at Fort Walsh NWMP Cemetery, Fort Walsh, Maple Creek Census Division, Saskatchewan, Canada[3][4].
His widow Frances May Clark married Barrister William Durie Gwynne on 20 September 1887 at St. George's Church, Ottawa, Canada.
