Biography

He joined the Army on 2 June 1814 and fought at the Battle of Waterloo and the storming of Cambray.

On 27 November 1821 he attained the rank of Lieutenant and served in the campaigns of 1824 and 1825, in Ava, including the taking of Rangoon, Kimendine, Kamaroot, and Mahattee. He led the attack upon the fortified heights at Aracan, and was severely wounded in the neck, arm, and left side.

In 1837 he was appointed Knight, Hanoverian Order (K.H.).

John was a Major in the 54th Regiment when he married Charlotte Sophia Dalrymple (the daughter of Maj.-Gen.
