Biography

Susan Clay King was born on September 10, 1858 in Georgia. Her parents were Joseph F Clay and Elizabeth E Johnson Clay.

According to the 1860 Census, Susan U. Clay King was living in Haralson County, Georgia with her parents, Joseph F. Clay and Elizabeth Johnson Clay. Five of her siblings were also living in the household: Washington P. Clay, Martha J. Clay, Sarah C. Clay, Misouria Clay, and Hosea J. Clay.[1]

According to the 1880 Census, Susan U. Clay was living in Haralson County, Georgia with her parents and siblings: Sidney Clay, Misouria Clay, and Mary Elizabeth Clay. [2]

She married Joseph B. King on November 11, 1881 in Haralson County, Georgia, [3][4]

On the 1900 Census, she was listed as a 40 year old, white female living in Carroll County, Georgia with her husband and children: John T. King, Martha A. King, Charles A. King, Mary E. King, Hosea C. King, William D. King, Charity A. King, and Joseph L. King. According to the census, she had been married 19 years; and she had given birth to nine children, eight of whom were still living. She could read and write. Her birthplace was listed as Georgia, as were the birthplaces of her parents. [5]
