Biography
She was born about 1653 at Portsmouth, Rhode Island and her parents were Mary Borden and John Cooke (1630-1691).[1]
Elizabeth Cooke married about 1680 in Little Compton, Rhode Island to William Briggs. [2]
In 1691 the last Will of her father, John Cooke, bequeathed to "Elizabeth, wife of William Briggs, and her sisters ... £10 apiece". [3] [4]
She passed away in August 1716 in Little Compton, Rhode Island. [5]

If the only problem is the letter "e" at the end of the surname, then it's probably fine to merge. Spelling was erratic back then when so few could even sign their names. I'd go with whatever spelling has come down in direct-line descent from a male relative.
