Welcome to my family history

I was born in 1966 in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It took 42 years to become interested in my ancestors and even now I cannot quite remember what got me going. I began like most I guess, identifying my grandparents mothers and fathers from other family members, I then traced them on the appropriate censuses. On my paternal side my grandfathers family lived in Bishopwearmouth and many had jobs in the shipbuilding industry. I do not know what brought my paternal grandfather James Curry to Leeds and equally I do not know why his grandfather Robert Curry moved from Leicester to Gateshead, both remain mysteries to be solved. James Curry's father Frederick was to move to Leeds in later life but he started out in the shipbuilding industry. He married Mary Ann Hughes in 1897 having two children that survived though four were born in total during their marriage. Mary's family at the time lived in Bishopwearmouth but her forebears came from Liverpool, her great grandfather Thomas Hughes being described as a 'Mariner'.

James Curry married Maureen Dorgan who had arrived in Leeds from Cork in Ireland. Maureen's mother and father were born in Cork. Her fathers side the Dorgan's where involved in the cattle trade and were employed on local farms. Maureen's father Patrick actually left the family in 1909 to travel to New York. It would appear that nothing was ever heard of him again. My maternal grandfather Harry Edward Lincoln was born in Leeds. His father Harry Lincoln came from Norfolk, he was a joiner. Again it is difficult to be sure what brought him to Leeds, however, his elder sister had already moved to the city and presumably the chance of sustained employment was the main temptation. He married into the Wilson family who at the time were living in Holbeck but had come to the city from Church Fenton. Beatrice Burrell maternal grandmother, 'Nana' to me was born in York, her father was Robert Burrell and his ancestors had always lived in York. He married Nellie Marshall in 1906 he worked in the farming industry as a labourer. Nellie's family originated in East Yorkshire and can be traced back to North Newbald, North & South Cave. Going even further back the Marshall line can be found in Skeffling which is part of modern day Hull.

Sorry to bother you again ... there was a bit of an internal problem with that last merge on these two profiles. So, I'm trying it again.

Thanks!

Julie

Curry-3225 and Curry-3217 appear to represent the same person because: Mark -- it looks like you've duplicated your family. You'll want to make sure that you merge the older generations before the younger to be sure that nobody gets disconnected.

Also, when you go to merge these two profiles be certain that you're including your email address in the 3rd column of the merge so that you don't lose your account.

I'm happy to give you a hand if you need it. Just click on my name above this message, and you can send me a Private Message from my profile.
