Louis was born in 1673 based on his ages in several Acadian censuses up through 1700[1].
His earliest mention is the 1678 Acadian Census at Port Royal[2]
In 1686, at Port Royal, Louis, aged 13, was living with his stepfather, Jean FARDEL, aged 46, and his mother, Marie Godet [sic], aged 36, and his six siblings: Bernard, aged 16, Olivier, aged 12, Jean, aged 10, Marie, aged 9, Anne, aged 7, and Pierre, aged 5. The family owned 1 gun and was living on 5 arpents of cultivable land with 13 cattle, 9 sheep and 8 hogs.[3]

The original 1686 census at Port Royal had a note added later saying that the children were from the marriage of Olivier Daigle and Marie Gaudet. Gaudet was listed as Godet.
