Peter De Brus, born before 1201. He married Hawise De Lancaster, daughter of Gilbert FitzRoger [FitzReinfrid] by Hawise, daughter of William de Lancaster (II). She was born after 1189. They had one son, Peter (III), and five daughters, Joan (wife of Peter de Mauley, Agnes, Lucy, Margaret, and Ladrana (or Laderina, Ladereyne). Peter De Brus died 7 Sept., before 1247, probably in 1240.

Children of Peter de Brus, by Hawise de Lancaster:

i. Agnes De Brus, married Walter De Fauconberge.
ii. Lucy De Brus, married Marmaduke De Thwenge.
iii. Margaret De Brus, married Robert De Roos.
iv. Ladrana (or Laderina, Ladereyne) De Brus, married John De Bellew, Knt., of Carlton-in-Baine (in Snaith), Yorkshire.

We are reporting a supposed controversy about whether this Hawise married Peter de Brus or whether that was her daughter with the same name. But both of the sources given mention no such theory. All sources seem quite unanimous that it was the daughter. (The source described as Chatham Society is here https://archive.org/stream/chartularycocke03farrgoog#page/n162/mode/1up and it actually Vol I part II of the Cokersand Chartulary, which is not particularly relevant to this subject, but does confirm the normal account.)
