Biography
Born in 1982 to Dan and Kris Frankum in Martinez, California. We moved to Willits in Mendocino County, California in 1984. I attended Brookside Elementary School, Blosser Lane Elementary School, Baechtel Grove Middle School and Graduated from Willits High School on June 15th, 2000.
~*~*~My Grandmother, Charlotte Ann (Blandy) Degurse (1928-2010) left me a wonderful Family Tree/Records book. She created 3 of them that I know of, hand typed. It looks like she started working on our genealogy in the early 1960's (most likely earlier than that, I think she always had and interest in our family history) She completed it in 1996. She gave one to each of her 3 Granddaughters. When I would go stay with her in the summers, as a child, I remember her working on them.
She used old family Bibles, oral history stories and mail correspondence with distant relatives. When traveling around the United States on various vacations, she would look through local phonebooks for our family surnames and then just call and start asking questions about how they maybe related. She also, somehow, received the addresses of people with our family surnames and wrote letters to people asking about their family histories. There are several letters from the "Blandys of Brazil" whom she started writing to in the early 1960's trying to discover the link between the two families. That Blandy family visited the United States and while here met my Grandmother and family. She also visited the LDS churches and looked through their records/archives. I remember her telling me what a wonderful resource the LDS church was for her research. I can only imagine her reaction if she were able to ever see their FamilySearch Website. Oh, the research that she could have done with the internet at her fingers!
She always kept really meticulous records, writing notes and genealogies on the backs of photographs, should they ever become lost. She would write notes on the undersides of her antique furniture, with the origin of where it came from, who it was passed down to, and who she wanted to receive it after her death. I remember seeing these notes as a small child playing on the floor of her living room. Small enough to see under the coffee table or side table.
Eventually, I would like to scan the pages of her book into a digital format to be accessed somehow online. It really is an amazing resource chronicling several generations of multiple families and converging on my Cousins and I. It was her legacy. For now I will be chipping away adding notes and such to the family profiles here on WikiTree. ~*~*~
