Biography

Hannah Gilbert or Gibbert or Gibbons married Joseph Chamberlain, 28 Aug 1682, in Sudbury, Massachusetts.[1]

She was the mother of eight children:

  1. Joseph b-4 Feb 1683
  2. Hannah b-abt 1685
  3. Ebenezer b-16 Sept 1687
  4. Nathaniel b-abt 1689
  5. Benjamin b-abt 1691
  6. George b-26 Nov 1693
  7. Rebecca
  8. Simon b-1698, d-20 Oct 1746

She died before March 14, 1721, when her husband made his will and did not mention her.[2]

Research Notes

Her supposed September 28, 1657 birth in Taunton, MA is present in hundreds of online trees. Taunton VR has a Hannah Gilbert born on September 28, 1677, daughter of Thomas Gilbert. Of course, this cannot be her, as she married Joseph Chamberlain in 1682.

Her husband died in 1721 as recorded in Oxford VRs. Her death is not listed in Oxford VRs.

Someone created a Find A Grave memorial for her, but there is no image or plot information attached to her memorial, nor is there a death date. Said memorial gives her date of birth September 28, 1657 at Sudbury, MA.[3] McCann-752 03:28, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

I could not find a birth in Taunton, Massachusetts (as the profile has it) nor in Sudbury, Massachusetts (as Find A Grave has it.)

According to a genealogist in Texas letter dated 1897 he believed Benjamin died at Keekamoochaug according to Daniel’s History. Wrote letter to Sudbury wanting Benjamin’s birth. Said his parents were Joseph Chamberlain and Hannah Gilbert. This paper is scanned and online and comes up as a document at familysearch. But the marriage of Joseph Chamberlain was not to Gilbert. This was misread. The name looks more like either Gibbon or Gibson.

Gilbert-3286 and Gilbert-2247 do not represent the same person because: The birth date is off two years. The death date is 39 years off. This does not appear to be a match.
