Biography

Margaret Gilmore was born in 1728 in Dunlap or Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland. She married a Irishman, Timothy O'Brien, in Ayr on April 17, 1746.[O'Brien.] The family left Ulster for Nova Scotia in the spring of 1768 on the ship Nancy. They landed in Halifax, then went on to Pizequid, now Windsor in Hants County. In 1771, Timothy received 2650 acres of farmland at Noel in the eastern part of Hants, near the lands of James Fulton.[Benjamin.] After Timothy's 1777 death, the widow Margaret is described as a "sturdy old Scotchwoman, the terror of her grandchildren who were unmannerly enough to make a noise in her presence or unfortunate enough to come within reach of her staff."[O'Brien.] Margaret died at Noel, July 25, 1808.[O'Brien.]

Gilmore-110 and Gilmore-1708 appear to represent the same person because: Same spouse and marriage date, same emigration to Nova Scotia, same children and death date. The earlier birthdate is incorrect.

Gilmore-536 and Gilmore-110 appear to represent the same person because: All info indiates the same person. The one birth year is obviously wrong.

Also found some documentation that said that they were married same year in Ireland.

Margaret Gilmore's marriage to Timothy O'Brian in Scotland (rather than Nova Scotia) may be worth further checking into, and may be worth questioning. Corrections will be posted to this profile when found. Let me know should you find other documentation.

Did Margaret Gilmore really marry Timothy O'Brien in Scotland when she was born, and died, in Nova Scotia? Might be worth checking this out further.
