Biography

Name and Origins

Name: Jane Unknown.
The origins and parents of Jane are unknown. She is sometimes called Jane Gould. There is no evidence for this LNAB.

Birth

Born: about 1610.
A very rough estimate based on the birth of her children would place her birth date sometime before 1620. This presents a problem as it is not certain she is mother of all the children of John Williams. The large gap in the ages of his children make it likely Jane was a younger second wife. If she was the mother of just Mary Lydia and Joseph she was probably born between 1615 and 1620, If she was the mother of Sarah and John she would have been born considerably earlier. One of her death records describes her as "antient",[1] suggesting that she was probably at least 70, putting her birth around 1610.

Death

Died: 21 November 1680 in Haverhill, Essex, Massachusetts[1][2]

I'm wondering if we could adjust the estimated birth date for Jane's birth from 1620 to maybe 1610? There is a 10 year gap in children which suggests she's a second wife, but isn't it more likely that she's closer in age to her husband? Her last child was born in 1647 so still well with in child bearing years.

Also her death record in 1680 calls her "an antient widdow." I'm not sure what qualifies as ancient in 1680...maybe 60 was ancient?

She was not married in 1630 to John Williams, Sr., who was born in 1636. I removed him as her husband.

What is the evidence for her LNAB? I believe it should be unknown.

Gould-2344 and Gould-436 appear to represent the same person because: wife of John Williams; same date and place of death
Gould-1951 and Gould-436 appear to represent the same person because: Found that birth date of 1600 is approximated and location (England vs Massachusetts) are of questionable accuracy, however, death records are in agreement. Uncertain as to name Sarah, however I have found sources listing her as Jane S. Gould married to John Williams II, father of Mary Williams b. 20 Sep 1641.
