Biography

He was christened in Toppesfield, Essex, England on 6 Mar 1569/70 as son of Thomas Greene. His mother's name is not known with certainty. William was the father of PGM immigrant, Thomas Greene (1599/1600-1667).

Much information about William and his family is available in the work by Dean Smith and Melinda Sanborn, Ancestry of Eva Belle Kempton, part 4 (2000), in which the authors cite parish registers, wills and other primary sources.[1]

The baptism of his son, William, 2nd, he is listed as butcher.

His will of 1631 bequeathed to his wife Christian and to his children listed below. Although William (jr) was his eldest son, he bequeathed more heavily to Thomas indicating that son William jr may have already received gifts during his lifetime. The complete will is transcribed at the "Kempton" source cited here.[1]

He was buried at Toppesfield 27 Jun 1632.[2]
