In turn Hywel was son of Rhys ap Arthfael ap Gwriad ap Brochwel ap Rhys ap King Ithel of Glywysing ap King Morgan of Glywysing (who died 665) ab Arthrwys ap Meurig ap Tewdrig ap Llywarch (Teithfall) ap Mynnio ab Erb.
