Biography

NANCY ELIZABETH HANCOCK was born January 17, 1763, Fluvanna County, Virginia.

1780 Marriage

Nancy Corn said in 1841 that she had married Jesse Corn in Albemarle County, Virginia in February 1780. The wedding was celebrated by Charles Clay, a minister of the high church of England. In 1849, her brother Major Hancock recollected Jesse Corn coming to see his sister Nancy before the war. He said he did not see their marriage but "saw them ride off with several other persons and when they returned they had been married ..." [1] A bond was signed in Fluvanna County VA on 25 Feb 1780 by Jesse Corn and Benjamin Hancock for the marriage of Corn to Nancy Hancock.[2]

1809 Widowed

According to Nancy, Jesse died on 5th day of March 1809 in Patrick County, Virginia.[3]

She died June 17, 1848, the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Sharp in Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee. Burial: Sharp Springs Cem, Franklin Co, TN.

The family register on back of the title page of a small New Testament was in the handwriting of Jesse Corn: Jesse Corn Sr. was born Oct 31, 1753. Nancy Corn was born Feb 17, 176[?].[4][5]

1848 Death

Nancy Corn’s pension certificate says her payments ended June 17, 1848, when she died. The final payment was to surviving children: Elizabeth Sharp, Mary Sharp, Nancy McCutchen, John Corn, and Samuel Corn. Nancy Corn had lived with her daughter Mary Sharp for about 30 years.[7] Find A Grave tells us that Nancy Elizabeth Hancock Corn is buried in Sharp Springs Cemetery, Franklin County, Tennessee. The record agrees that her birth date was Feb. 17, 1763, and that she was born in Cunningham, Fluvanna County, Virginia. Her death date was June 17, 1848, in Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee. Parents of this Nancy Hancock Corn were John D Hancock (1733 - 1802), Elizabeth Maddox Hancock (1732 - 1805), her spouse was Jesse Corn (1753 - 1809). [8]
