Her marriage to Cape-born Jacobus Hendricks:, of the farm "Nietvoorbij" near Banhoek, is initially opposed by the minister at Stellenbosch as the groom & his father - the step-son of Thielman Hendricksz (from Utrecht) whose mother Maijke Hendricks / Mayken van den Berg (from Diest in Brabant) had been banished earlier (1677) to Mauritius for cattle rustling - were effectively fugitives of the law after assaulting the cobbler Jacobus van den Berg (from Breskens, Zeeland) & the couple finally are allowed to get married at the Castle ... After the birth of their son, she, her husband & son are banished (1710) as a family to Ceylon ... [Mansell Upham] [4][5]
23 November 1672: "Wife of the burgher Thieleman Hendricx: (|Maijcke Hendriks: van den Berg (from Diest in Brabant)) told us to-day that her servant [Philip Buylings] had been at the Witteboomen yesterday, where he had met & conversed with the fugitive drummer [the soldier Arent Roeloffsz: (from Breda)] &, on taking leave, had agreed to meet on the same spot to-morrow, when he would bring him some food. Time will show whether this will lead to his apprehension". [Journal] The fugitive - the soldier Arent Roeloffsz: [(from Breda)]- was indeed apprehended the next day at 2 o'clock. He had AWOLed together with Frans Cuijper (5 November 1672). [Mansell Upham] [4]
