Cornelius married Sarah Sanford about 1685 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Ezekiel Sanford and Rebecca Whelpley.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] They had the following children[4][5][6][8]:
The Cornelius Hull of this profile was a lieutenant in the Fairfield trainband.[3]
He established a hamlet within the Town of Fairfield called Hull's Farms. It was situated on a large parcel of land that his father acquired.[5] Several generations of his descendants as well as households of several prominent early Fairfield families resided in Hull's Farms.[3]
He was a founding member of the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church which was established in 1725.[5]
Cornelius Hull died on 7 May 1740 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut.[1][2][9][10] He was 85 years old.[10] He was buried in Greenfield Hill Cemetery, Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut.[9][10][11]
The will that he signed on 21 January 1735 was proven on 12 August 1740.[1][12] It mentions daughters Rebecca Meeker, Elizabeth Burr, Martha Sherwood, Eleanor Pherrey [sic]; granddaughter Sarah Sanford; and sons George, Nathaniel, Ebenezer, John and Cornelius.[1][12]His inventory was taken on 11 December 1740.[13]
Research Notes
The Hale Collection of Connecticut Cemetery Records shows his death date as 8 May 1740.[11] However, this date appears to have been transcribed incorrectly since a photograph of his gravestone posted at Find A Grave clearly shows his death date as "May ye 7th 1740" when the image is displayed at full resolution in a photo editor and the contrast is enhanced.
