Kathryn Dawn Lang is known by her stage name k.d. lang. She is a revered Canadian pop and country singer-songwriter with a mezzo-soprano voice whose style crosses the Country, pop, folk, jazz genres.
She performed Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" live at the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. She has won many awards, among them the JUNO and the Grammys. In 1996, she was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.
K.d. Lang was born in Edmonton, Alberta as the daughter of Audrey and Adam Frederick Lang. She was the youngest of four children. When she was nine months old, her family moved to Consort, Alberta, Canada. Her father, (now deceased) was a drugstore owner.
