Uncertain Parentage

Robert Leonard Ross, The Ross family of New Jersey:[1]

Some say she was the daughter of Richard Little of New Haven, while others say she was the daughter of George or Benjamin Little of Newbury, Mass.[2] It is likely she was related, perhaps a sister, to John Little/Littell who also came from New Haven to Elizabethtown. John Little had property adjacent to George Ross. On 1-29-1704 he was directed by the Court to deed title to a house lot in Elizabethtown to George Ross. John Little named one of his daughters Constance, an uncommon name. This John Little was evidently the progenitor of the prominent New Jersey Littell Family.

Donald Lines Jacobus, in Families of Ancient New Haven, suggests that Constance "was perhaps sister of Richard [Little]".[3]

Biography

"Constance Little was born about 1636 as she gave her age as 28 in 1664."[1] There is no record of Constance Ross's death, will or burial. It is supposed she predeceased her husband.

Marriage and Children

She married George Ross on 7 December 1658 in New Haven, New Haven, CT.[4][5]

The had five children:[1]

  • John, b. 1660, New Haven, New Jersey.

Her birth in 1636 in New Haven seems highly unlikely, as New Haven was not founded until 1638.

Also, I see no evidence documenting John Little (abt.1612-abt.1718) and Elizabeth (Bradley) Little (abt.1610-abt.1640) as her parents.
