Biography

Marretje Pieters, daughter of Pieter Cornelise Luyster, was married to Pieter Pieterse Monfoort.[1] She is estimated to have been born about 1657 in New Netherland, based on the birth dates of her children. Some sources give her birth date as 21 July 1652, but this is her husband's baptism date. Profile Luyster-8 gave New Amsterdam as her birth place. Profile Luyster-91 gave her birth place as Newton, Queens, New York. Her baptism is not in New Amsterdam church records.

Pieter Montfoort and family resided in Flatlands (Kings County, Long Island).[1]

Children of Pieter Pieterse Monfoort and Marretje identified by Teunis G. Bergen were:[2]

  1. Antie Pieters, born 1 May 1677.
  2. Sara Pieters, born 15 June 1679. Wardell reported a baptism record for Saartje Pieters Monfoort, baptized 29 June 1679 at Amersfoort, Flatbush Reformed Church (witnesses Jan Montfoort; Jannetje Jans).[3]
  3. Pieter Pieterse, 16 February 1681. Wardell reported a baptism record for Pieter Montfoort, baptized 27 February 1681 at Utrecht, Flatbush Reformed Church (witnesses: Pieter Cornelisz., Jannetje Montfoort) (parents’ names in record: Pieter Montfoort, Jannetje Pieters)[3]
  4. Cornelis Pieterse, born 9 March 1684. Wardell reported a baptism record for Jan Pieters Montfort, baptized 9 March 1684 at Midwout, Flatbush Reformed Church (witnesses: Cornelis & Thijs Pietersz, Willemtje Pieters) (parents in bp. record: Pieter Montfort, Jannetje Pieters)[3]

Her husband Pieter Montfoort was baptized in New Amsterdam on 21 July 1652. The New Amsterdam church records don't show this woman being baptized on that date. I reviewed the New Amsterdam church records from 1652 to 1660 and did not find a record for her baptism.
