Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. The Humboldt Park neighborhood was home through eighth grade when the family moved west to Elmwood Park. Following high school, Mike attended and graduated from Western Illinois University. While attending WIU, met and became engaged to Sherri Lee Sembach.
Following graduation, Mike accepted a position at Allstate Insurance Company headquarters in Northbrook, Illinois in the emerging field of computer science. Forty three years later, he retired from Allstate, in the same field. Both matured significantly over those years.
Mike and Sherri married in 1974 and began raising a family of three children starting in 1978.
