There has been an unsourced mention that this profile's middle name was Robinson.
This profile seems to be well-documented forward in time with primary evidence and respectable autosomal DNA. However, the parents look very iffy indeed. I can find no primary evidence at all, especially for connection back to the old world, even more so given the social class of the purported father. That said, the Y chromosomal DNA for FTDNA kit 897567 does match the profile (FGCLR579) (as do I) which has previously been tentatively attributed to Dunnyveg. The purported father of this profile is traditionally attributed to Dunnyveg with little if any quibbles.
Thus, the DNA evidence suggests a diligent search for primary evidence
supporting the purported parents of this profile.

The name McDonald was change for some unknown reason with the children of this John. He is in most records with the name McDonald. Some of the children of his son Eli went to court to get their name changed from McDaniel back to McDonald. I descend through two of this John McDonald children, John and Eli. John's family uses the name McDaniel and most of Eli's used the name McDonald. Never have I found the name Robinson used as part of this John's name. I see no connection with the Robinson family.
He was probably R1a. But its not certain. The line of his purported father is, if the extensive paper back in Ireland is correct, for sure R1a.
I'm the admin of the Clan Donald DNA Project. There are numerous living all-male-line men who descend from the McDonnells of Kilrush, Co. Clare and Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland who are still in Ireland ... but so far I have not even got through to one to ask them to test! There are numerous purported autosomal cousins of this McDaniel-242 including myself who test R1a and R-FGCLR569. I suspect that reality is that
half the paper trails are simply wrong (attributed with no real evidence) and that the "wrong" side is picking up autosomal matches through other people in his close geographic community. I'm absolutely certain that I personally have one DNA cousin who matches many of his descendants through an unrelated person in Richmond Co. I have examined hundreds of them carefully. This note from McDonald-6970.
McDaniel-3727 and McDaniel-1479 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles are the same with the same parents who have been part of merges as well. Review & merge as appropriate. Please notate reasons in public comments if merge is rejected or delayed.
McDaniel-1479 and McDaniel-243 are not ready to be merged because: Several details don't line up and John is a very common name.

that are known to be R1a and I am R1b
