Biography

Jane (Means) Campbell is a member of Clan Menzies.

Jane Means, born ca. 1759, Pennsylvania; died 1831, buried in the Presbyterian Churchyard at New Market.

She married 27 Apr 1784, JAMES CAMPBELL, born ca. 1759; died 1826, Jefferson Co, TN. James was the son of Archibald and Elizabeth Baker? Campbell. (Actually probably Elizabeth Beard Campbell.)

The known issue of Jane and James: 1) Elizabeth Campbell, b 31 Jan 1785; marred ______Vance 2) Archibald Campbell, b 1 Sept 1786; d 1836 3) Mary Campbell, b 13 jul 1789; married 1818, Ebenezer Fain 4) Nancy Campbell, b 16 May 1791; d 24 Jul 1875 5) Jane Campbell, b 13 May 1795 6) Margaret Campbell, b Apr 1797; married 1817, John Fain 7) Robert Campbell, b 1 May 1804; d 18 Nov 1881

A Quaker record shows that Robert and Betsys' daughter Jane Means married James Campbell on April 27, 1784 in Campbell County, VA., and that their son Robert Means Jr. married Isabella Fields on Oct. 13th 1800 in Campbell County. Perhaps the family continued membership in the Quaker meeting in Campbell County even though they had moved to North Carolina?

Jane was born in 1759. She passed away about 1831.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jane by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jane:

Hi Susan, I will defer to Annette Fabry for the best answer to this question.

Any progress on the research for the possible merge?

Quite a bit of time has passed: any progress on researching this profile to verify that the merge is valid (or not?)

Means-1126 and Means-767 appear to represent the same person because: Same person. Place of death and other information is correct on Means-767.

Means-1590 and Means-767 are not ready to be merged because: Date of birth and birthplace on Means- 1590 and Means-767 do not match. Need more time to research.

For the proposed merge, please check the information on father Robert Means-769. It looks like he migrated to Virginia in the 1770s and he wasn't in Rockingham, NC until 1779. Jane is born around 1759 so it is not possible that either of those was her birthplace. Thanks.

Means-1590 and Means-767 appear to represent the same person because: Seem to be the same person. Same husband and parents. Some details need to be researched and corrected.

Hi Burl. I set an unmarked match for these two Jane Means. There is similarity in the dates and the odd bit that they both died in New Market, although mine is New Market, Tennessee and yours is New Market, NC. In any case, take a look at your tree and see if this makes sense. If not, you can mark them as a rejected match. Are we related once again? My Jane Means married a Campbell, but she had children with some of the same names you list...Jane, Mary, Elizabeth, Nancy and Robert Fleming. Angela
