James was born about 1812. He was the son of George Mustard and Sarah Unknown. James is mentioned in the article on the Mustards in Markham Historical Society, Markham 1793-1900,1979 pp. 76- 77 as being the brother of William and son of George. His birthdate is suggested as 1813 there.[1]

James married Jane Gibson in 1848 in Markham[2] and had 9 children with her.

James can be found in the 1851 Canada Census and 1861 Canada Census living with his wife and children in Markham. The Agricultural Census for 1851 Canada Census shows him at Con. 6, Lot 29 on 50 acres.

In the 1871 Canada Census he has moved to a farm Grey County, Ontario with his family.

He passed away in Bagnor, Grey County in 1893. [3]
