Mary Ann Payne, born 23 Jan 1817 and baptized on 12 Feb 1817 was the daughter of Charles Payne and his wife, Charlotte.[1][2]
Mary Ann Payne (19, spinster), the daughter of Charles Payne (engineer), was married to James Mellor (bachelor age 20, a woolcomber), son of William Mellor (framework knitter), in All Saints Leicester on 4th March 1838. Both of their addresses were Soar Lane, Leicester at the time of Marriage. Charles Payne and Maria Payne were witnesses to the marriage.
[3][4]
They had a child, Selina Ann in Leicester in 1838.[5]
They had a child, Louisa Mellor in Leicester in 1840.[6]
In 1841, James Mellor (recorded age 20, a woolcomber) was living with his wife, Mary (20) in Rawson's Yard, Soar Lane, Leicester. They had one child, Louisa (1). Mary's (presumed) sister, Maria Payne (24) was living with them, as was Hannah Payne (2). Note that adult ages were rounded off in 1841, hence the discrepancy with the age at marriage. Mary Mellor and Maria were both born outside of Leicestershire, according to the 1841 census.[7]
They had a daughter, Charlotte in Leicester in 1842.[8][9]
They had a daughter, Mary Ann in Leicester in 1843.[10][11]
Daughters, Charlotte, Louisa and Mary Ann were all baptised on the same day, 5 Nov 1843.[12]
NB I cannot find a birth reg for son, James Mellor (born 8 Oct 1848 , who appears on the 1860 US census and Utah Mission Registry), in England in 1848. The James Mellor born in Leicester in 1848 was recorded as having a MMN of Moore. There may be some error or omission because James certainly existed.[13][14]
They had a son, William Charles in Leicester in 1851. The Mission Registry of Utah is however a year out, citing 1852. 1851 is however most probably correct, as it is a government registry.[15][16]
They had twin daughters, Clara Altera and Emma Marintha in Leicester in 1853.
[17][18][19]
Mary Ann Mellor (birth date 23 Jan 1819) left England on 28 Jul 1856 and arrived in Deseret, United States on 30 Nov 1856.[20]
They had a son, John C, born in Utah about 1860.[21]
In 1860 James (41) and Mary A (40) were living in Springville, Utah, Utah Territory, United States with their six children. James (11), Mary A (13) William (9), Emma (6) and Clara A (6) were born in England, John C (0) was born in Utah.[22]
In 1870, James (50, recorded as Miller) and Mary A (50) were living in Fayette, Sanpete, Utah Territory, United States with five children. James (21), William (19), Emma (16) and Clara A (16) were born in England, John C (10) was born in Utah.[23]
In 1880, Mary A Mellor (57, born in England) was in the house of her son, John C Mellor (20, a farmer) and his wife, Eva C Mellor (18) in Fayette, Sanpete, Utah, United States.[24]
Mary Ann Mellor died on September 15th 1895 and is buried in Fayette, Sanpete, Utah, USA.[25][26]
