Biography

The son of Pieter Casparszen Mabille (1625-bef.1665) and Aechtje Jans (1629-bef.1698). Peiter's father was a descendant of a Hugonaut line that migrated from France to Norway before traveling to New Amsterdam in North America.

Jan and Annetje Mabee were the first to permanently settle on the Mabee family farm. The Mabee family farm is the oldest farm in the Mohawk Valley (1705).

(Side Note: Today, the Mabee Farm is a historic site run by the Schenectady County Historical Society, in Pattersonville-Rotterdam Junction, New York, and is open for tours.)

Research Notes

LNAB : "Van Naerden" is the surname recorded for Jan's father at Jan's baptism, but that does not appear to have been a name that applied to anyone but him. Pietersz, Jan's patronymic, is the "surname" that first appears for him in records, at the baptism of his son Jan. Quackenbush-118 00:47, 27 March 2017 (EDT), citing page 37.

Surname: While Jan was baptized under the name Van Naerden, his father's name of origin, he evidently used Mabie (Mebi, Mabi, Mabee, etc.) as his preferred surname. It appears consistently in his own records and those of his family, including the Fort Hunter land deed (below), his will,[5] and the baptisms and marriages of his children.[7]

The following paragraph comes verbatim from the Wikipedia page on Fort Hunter, boldface added:

The Fort Hunter land, approximately 80 acres on both sides of the mouth of the Schoharie, was deeded in 1697 to Jan Peterse Mabee. He had an advantage because his wife Anna Borsboom, apparently of mixed race, was "something related to the Indian castle".[citation needed] The deed was signed by Sachem Rode of the Wolf Clan. In order to build the fort, there was a land swap, with the Mabee family receiving land further south on Schoharie Creek. Copies of the deed are held both in the Albany State Archives and at the shrine of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha in nearby Auriesville, New York.[8]

Mebie-32 and Mabie-15 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. Thanks!
