Biography

Joseph Rogers was born on 22 February 1679 in Eastham, Plymouth Colony, the son of John Rogers and Elizabeth Twining. [1]

He married Mercy Crisp on 13 October 1703 in Eastham. [2][3]

She was born there on 15 October 1681, the daughter of George and Hepsibah (Cole) Crisp.[4][5]

Mercy died before 1739 when her husband remarried. Joseph married, as his second wife, Sarah (Hamilton) Harding on 13 April 1739 in Eastham,[6][7] the daughter of Daniel and Sarah (Smith) Hamilton, and the widow of Theodore Harding. The will of Daniel Hamilton of Chatham, dated 23 May 1746, names daughter Sarah wife of Theodore Harding.[8]

Joseph died in Eastham before 04 August 1757. The will of Joseph Rogers of Eastham, yeoman, "advanced in age and under decays of nature", dated 23 May 1746 and proved 4 August 1757, names wife Sarah, daughter Martha Cole, and sons Elkanah and Crisp Rogers, with Crisp to be executor. Witnesses to his will were Barnabas Twining, Richard Sparrow Jr., and Israel Cole.[9]
