Hi Wendy,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Welcome back to WikiTree, Wendy!

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.

You mentioned that you don’t know much about your family tree yet. I assume you are new to genealogy. No problem! Every genealogist is a beginner at some point. Take your time, keep track of sources, and ask questions. Check here for tips.

Hi Laura,

I have been doing genealogy for some time now, but haven't been able to get very far with the Jewish side of my family. My great grandfather was Henry Israel Rosenberg born 1853 Poland. He married Leah Levy 1876 in Whitechapel London before coming to Australia. On the marriage certificate his father was Harris Rosenberg and he was deceased. Just recently I have found that Henry has a sister, Rose. I have done some searching and found Rose married a Charles Abrahams, son of Lewis and Hanah 1900 London City, England. Rose's father was Tzvi the Cohen, as per marriage certificate and marriage authorisation. I am wondering if Hirsch Cohen and Harris Rosenberg are the same person. I know that Hirsch and Harris could be the same. I have the same problem with Charles's father's name as well. On Charles's marriage certificate he is Abraham Abrahams and on Charles's naturalisation paper he is Lewis Abrahams. I find this puzzling. Can you please give me some advice? Kind regards Wendy Rosenberg Brooks

Hi Wendy,

It is always possible that a surname changed. It would be a major change from Cohen to Rosenberg, and I doubt that is likely. The first names of the Abrahams may refer to the same person. One may have been a middle name or nickname. The best thing to do is start with what you know and look for sources. Our G2G forum is a really great place to ask questions. We have members with experience in different locations, time periods, religions, and just about anything else you can think of. They are always willing to help. Add tags to the tag box if you post in G2G with relevant words, make sure that you put a space between them. In this case, you might want to add tags Rosenberg and Jewish and others that may apply. This will get the attention of members following those tags. Explain in the post what you have explained here to me. Good luck, and if you have any questions let me know. Laura
