Thomas could not have died in 1775 as he was in Hampshire Virginia (now West Virginia) witnessing a will of an Abraham Kukendall in 1777 and perhaps living with his son Benjamin

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
The will of Jacob Westfall transcribed on Westfall-1576 seems to confirm that the Maria Westfall who married Thomas Schoonhoven was the daughter of Jacob Westfall (i.e., Westfael-5), not the daughter of Claes Westfall (i.e., Westvaal-38). Therefore, I believe that Westvaal-38 should be disconnected from Thomas Schoonhoven and the Schoonover child who is connected to her should be transferred to Westfael-5.
ok I have born in Place, Albany County, NJ, Aug 8, 1714 for birth coming from a genealogy on Nickolas (bastard Nick) Schoonhoven that I have - offshoot of Schoonover Master Tree
Well that could certainly be - born in Place, baptized in Kingston is possible
