Biography

He was born abt. 1731 in New Castle County, Delaware and his parents were Hans Jurgen Smidt and Maria Stalcop.

Andreas Smidt married on 05 Aug 1755 at Swedes Church to Sarah Gregg [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] (b: 1738). [6]

About 1755 he lost his land in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware.

In 1755 his wife Sarah was mentioned in the last Will of her grandfather Simon Hadly. [7] Apparently the couple used this money to leave the area.

In 1782 they resided in New Castle Hundred, Delaware. [8]

His wife was disowned by the Quakers for being married by a priest [9] and by 06 May 1757 she was no longer a member of the Friends Society.

1790 census Sarah Smith and family were living in the Hillsborough District, Orange County, N.C. near her sister Ruth who had married William Brackin.

They moved to Orange County, North Carolina. [5]

Research Notes

There were two Andrew Smiths on the 1790 tax list which is a substitute for the lost 1790 census in Orange County, North Carolina. However the William Brackin that one of them lived near is not the one who married Ruth Gregg.

There were two cousins named William Brackin ...

- one lived in Orange County, North Carolina and moved to Sumner County, Tennessee where he died
- one married Ruth Gregg and settled in Pennsylvania where he died.

Descendants are doubtful that Wyatt SMITH has this German ancestor, so I am wondering if you can please provide some sources for this claim. I have information I want to add to add about Wyatt Smith's siblings but I don't want to confuse this other profile here for the supposed father. Thanks

Smith-35543 and Smith-35292 appear to represent the same person because: they seem to have similar birth information. Please compare and merge Smith-35543 into Smith-35292 if you agree they are two profiles for the same person. Thank you. Kitty Cooper-1 Smith
