Research Note
Jonathan Stout is sometimes linked by modern researchers to David and his second wife, Rachel Stout, daughter of Nehemiah and Rachel Stout. He is not the only Jonathan Stout to be suggested as the son named Jonathan, but his age and Kentucky origins make him a candidate to watch. Further reading on David and Rachel can be found in the Ege and Stout books cited below. These authors lived in Hunterdon: Stout at the same time as Jonathan and Rachel Stout with first hand information and Ege born 1837 worked on the history of Hopewell of which Jonathan, father David, is said to be the pioneer of Hopewell.[5][6]
His family lines are: Paternal line of David and Rebecca Ashton, David m Anne Merrill, Nehemiah Stout m Rachel, Rachel m David, widow of Amy her sister. Maternal line of Jonathan m Anne Bollen, David Sr and Elizabeth Larrison, Jonathan m Rachel Burroughs, David m Rachel Stout, Jonathan m Margaret Hanna.[7][8][9][10][11]
In the 1880 census the ages of the children vary by ten years from the ages in 1850. Those living with parents were: David, Synthia, Tishiah, (Kesiah). William and George W, a grandson.[12]

I *strongly* suggest making this merge easier by removing the links to the alleged father(s) David Stout and, in one case, alleged mother Amy Unknown. These parents remain highly speculative, and no records have been cited in this profile to prove that they are the parents of Jonathan. (If anything, the sources call this a "weak link".)
I suggest that this theory instead be included as biographical matter. (Especially since David Stout's parents are also contested among Stout researchers.) Hopefully autosomal DNA testing will eventually lead to firmer answers on this front. Thanks! :)
