Biography

George Symmons was born 2 October 1671 in Saint James Parish, Anne Arundel, Maryland to George and Sarah Symons. He was christened on 25 September 1698 in the same location. George died between June and August of 1720 in Anne Arundel, Maryland. [1] [2]

George was the son of George Symons/Simmons and Sarah. George married Elizabeth Knighton the daughter of Thomas Knighton and Dinah Battee.[3] [4]

  1. Dinah Simonds born 29 April 1701, christened on 3 August 1701, St. James Parish, Anne Arundel, Maryland, married Rodger Crudington born abt 1693, married 21 November 1718. [5][6][7]
  2. Mary Symmons was christened on 5 May 1706, St. James Parish, Anne Arundel, Maryland, married Thomas Jones.[8][7]
  3. Elizabeth Symmons born 25 December 1709, St. James Parish, Anne Arundel, Maryland, married James Pickerill.[9][7]
  4. George Simmons born 6 December 1711, christened 11 May 1712, St. James Parish, Anne Arundel, Maryland[10][7]
  5. Sarah Simmons born 29 December 1713, christened 28 February 1714, St. James Parish, Anne Arundel, Maryland, not mentioned in father' will. [11]
  6. Sophia Simmons was born 3 October 1716, Christened 23 December 1716 at St. James Parish, Anne Arundel, Maryland, married married twice, 1st husband John Farmer, 2nd husband James Death. [12][7]

Simmons, George,A. A. Co.,14th June, 1720; 15th August 1720. To dau. Diana, wife of Roger Crudginton, 10s. To wife Elizabeth, extx., her thirds and £10; residue of estate to 4 child., viz. Mary, Elizabeth, George and Sophia, equally. Girls to receive portions at 16, or marriage, son at age of 21 yrs. Test: Samuel Guichard, William Vernon, Wm. Wotton. 16, 182. [13]

The 1736 probate settlement for George Simmons clearly shows five children: Mary the wife of Thomas Jones, Sophia the wife of John Farmer, Elizabeth the wife of James Pickerill, son George, and Dinah the wife of Roger Crudington.[7]

Symmons-5 and Symons-334 appear to represent the same person because: Same names, date of birth and death as well as location. Symons appears to be the correct LNAB as that is what is on his Christening record, however birth records for his children are spelled Simmons.
