Biography

Grace Pearl Thompson was born on 7 Aug 1880 in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania. She was the second of twelve children born to John Thompson and Mary Jackson. She married Thomas Morgan Thomas in Wilkes-Barre on 28 Jan 1899. Rev. D. E. Edwards performed the wedding ceremony.^[1][2] Though the couple had no children of their own, they raised a family. After Grace's sister, Effie Miers, died in 1912, Grace and Tom raised her two sons as their own. They legally adopted the youngest child, Noel Miers Thomas.

Grace's sister, Dorothy Richards, died in 1917. In those days before day care for children, George Richards was not able to work and care for two toddlers without his wife. He and his children moved in with Grace and Tom so Grace could care for his children. Tom died in 1933, and Grace married George on 24 Apr 1939. Rev. M. S. Mumma performed the wedding ceremony in Wilkes-Barre.^[3] Grace Richards died on 08 Sep 1953 at the Atlantic City Medical Center while on vacation at Atlantic City, New Jersey. She is buried at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Maple Lawn, Lot #6, Hanover Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania.
