Biography

Jonathan Thurston was born: 04 Jan 1659 at Little Compton Newport RI, son of Edward Thurston and Elizabeth Mott. He died: 15 Apr 1740, Taunton Bristol MA.^[1][2]

Jonathan married Sarah Guile in 1678 in Little Compton, Newport, Rhode Island. (Sarah Guile who was born on 01 Mar 1657 in Haverhill Essex MA and died on 19 Oct 1724 in Haverhill Essex MA.)^[3] The Little Compton marriage record: Jonathan Thurston and _____ _____ m. ___ 1678.^[4]

Jonathan Thurston was a yeoman (i.e., a landowning farmer).

He wrote a will on 22 August 1735, and it was probated at Taunton, Massachusetts on 15 April 1740 (Bristol County (MA) Probate Records," 9:390). Excerpts from the will include "...Jonathan Thurston of Little Compton, yeoman, now resident and living in Dartmouth...To son Edward 10 shillings. To son Jonathan 140 pounds and he to be sole executor. To son Joseph 150 pounds. To son Job 150 pounds. To daughter Mary Brownell 30 pounds. To daughrer Content Wood 30 pounds. To daughter Abigail White 30 pounds. To daughter Susannah Carr 30 pounds. To grandson Lovit Peters 30 pounds and that which belongs to his mother Eleanor. To granddaughter Rebecca Southworth 20 pounds and household stuff that belonged to Patience, herm other. Ten shillings to all daughters of Elizabeth Wood's children. To daughter Sarah Sawday's children 10 shillings. To two youngest sons, Joseph and Job, all household goods not otherwise disposed of..."

The inventory of his estate totalled 357 pounds, 11 shillings (Bristol County (Massachusetts) Probate Records," 9:401).
