Biography

Note: There is no record of a William Trotter, son of William of Newbury and Elizabethtown. The Quaker Trotters of Philadelphia must have been a different family. The Trotters of Elizabethtown, like all of the settlers there, were New England Puritans by origin and belief -- and hence hostile to Quakers and Quakerism. Monnette's Settlers of Piscataway makes this connection but sourcing is obscure.[1] Also listed by Genealogical Society of Bergen County, without source.[2]

William Trotter was born in June 1659 in Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony, to parents William Trotter 1630-1676 and Cutbury Gibbs 1628-1667. No

He married Rebecca Theach on 18 April 1693 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[3][4] Children: Nathan, William, Joseph, Benjamin, Rebecca.

He died on 11 September 1699 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

I agree with the merge but cannot understand why this person is classified under the New Netherland Settler project.
