I was born at Waterloo, Iowa in 1954. My parents brought me home across the Cedar River to Cedar Falls. We then lived in the Kankakee, Illinois area where my brother and 2 sisters were born, then moved to Ottawa, Illinois in 1961, where I lived for 40 years.

I was married for 6 years, and my daughter was born in 1979. I raised her myself. She moved to San Diego, CA in 2002 and has 2 daughters who were born in 2003 and 2005.

I worked for 27 years on building and road construction. I am a member of the Laborers International Union of North America and I was employed by multiple contractors as a laborer, foreman, and project supervisor. My main area of work was concrete street and road construction projects, and I did a little bit of many areas of construction and maintenance over the years. I retired early thanks to the Laborers.

When I retired I began searching for an acreage with grass , trees, and water. I was also upgrading my duplex in town. Fortunately, I found what I was looking for just 15 miles from my hometown. After completing my project and selling the house in town, I put a mobile home on the farm site and began working to build the small farm.

A couple years later in my most fortunate event, I met a nice girl, Jill, about my age from a small village nearby. After a few years of enjoying each other's company, we were married in Ottawa, IL on 14 Nov 2008. We lived at the home her dad built for about a year before we moved to the mobile home, while I completed the home I had been building.

Our farm now has a small flock of Katahdin hair sheep, some laying hens and a dog. I also have a 5 acre timber lot that I planted and tended for the past 21 years. I also planted and tended hundreds of other trees, and I enjoy the conservation of native trees. I work to keep the amount of invasive species of trees and plants down

I guess I would not be writing this on Wikitree if genealogy wasn't my hobby, but it is and so I am. I began by joining Ancestry in 2013 and have spent uncounted hours working to get it right and add the sources to my tree. I am seeing how Wikitree can define that philosophy and sharpen our wits to make a better product.

"As iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another" (Proverbs). Or in our case, so one genealogist sharpens another.
