Disputed Parents

There are internet family trees showing that Jacques Laman was the father of Jenne (Jeanne) ----, the mother of Marie (Mahieu) Delano and Hester (Mahieu) Cooke. This appears to be an error; there is no known documentation for such a father. The two relevant articles by Jeremy Dupertuis Bangs, the leading authority on this family, don't show a maiden name or a father for Jenne.[1] [2]

Biography

Jeanne's maiden name is unknown. Leiden marriage banns show Jenne Mahieu as being the mother of Marie, Hester, Anthonette and Françoise Mahieu, and the stepmother of Jenne Mahieu.[3]

"Because Hester Mahieu's mother's name was also Jenne (Jeanne), and because Hester's husband Francois acted as a baptismal witness for Philippe de Lannoy, a role that was frequently given to relations, it may be concluded that Mary Mahieu was almost certainly Hester's sister. In other words, Francis and Hester Cooke were the uncle and aunt of Philip Delano."[4]
