Elizabeth (Unknown surname) was born in England about 1584 (based on the age of her son Joseph Carter.
She married a man with the surname "Carter" in about 1604 and with him had one known son, Joseph Carter.[1]
Apparently her first husband died for she married as a widow, (2ndly) to Francis Kirby.[1][2]
Elizabeth's husband sent a letter of introduction for his step-son, Joseph Carter, to Governor Winthrop on April 11, 1639. In it, Francis Kirby describes Joseph Carter as "my loue deserving son and faithfull servant." Further Kirby writes, "so soone as he was freed from my service had an earnest desire to come to N: England." It seems Kirby was friendly with both the father and son Winthrop through his first marriage to Susan Downing - Susan's brother, Emmanuel Downing was married to Winthrop's sister.[2]
Her son, Joseph, returned to London about 2 years later and lived with Elizabeth and her husband at "the signe of the three pidgeons in Bishops-gate-street prior to his marriage."[2]
Elizabeth was not listed in her husband's will, dated July 24, 1660, so it is assumed she died before that date. The three daughters of her son Joseph and his wife are listed in Kirby's will, they are: "...Eunice Rachel, Sarah Carter, daughters of Joseph Carter, deceased..."[1]

The will of Francis Kirby gives bequest "to Elizabeth Turfett, daughter of George Turfett, the grandchild of his late wife Elizabeth, deceased." However George Turfett may have been a son-in-law, and his wife the daughter of Elizabeth wife of Francis Kirby. I found no indication of Elizabeth Kirby's surname in the source, so think it should be LNAB: Unknown; CLN: Kirby; OLN Carter.
