Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1715 in Somerfield, Somerset County, New Jersey,^[1] the sixth of eleven known children and the fourth of seven daughters of John and Margaret Mollenauer Van Meter.

In 1733, when she was about eighteen, Elizabeth married Thomas Shepherd^[2] in Monocacy, Frederick County, Maryland,^[3] and bore him twelve children, five sons, and seven daughters:
