Biography

Verna was born in 1929. She is the daughter of Earl Weaver and Wilma Snell. Verna Mae married Frank Ernst. Verna Mae work as a secretary for the Tennessee Overall Factory, where Frank worked because his dad owned it. All it took was for Frank to meet Verna Mae and they fell in love, and married soon after, Most of Verna’s life was spent in Huntsville, Alabama while Frank worked for NASA. Not long after they moved from Tennessee to Huntsville, Verna Mae and Frank were blessed with two children- a boy in 1963, and a girl in 1959.

Verna Mae was always busy either with the kids, writing stories, poems, books and volunteering for many social events and Garden Clubs. She was also the Marble Plains Methodist Church, in Franklin County, Tennessee church Historian. She has been doing this job since she was in her 20’s and she just recently stopped at age 91 and turned the job over. Verna Mae and Frank wanted to move back to Tullahoma, Tennessee to be closer to the relatives and closer to the church. They had been keeping up Marble Plains church and keeping it going for many years. They had run fundraiser’s and bake sales, and sold books in order to keep the church doors open. The Marble Plains Family Church was well over one hundred years old, and it was their family church. She and Frank deserve every bit of credit for the doors staying open still today, with over three hundred members. The pastor of the church for the last twenty five years has been the wonderful, Brother Jack Hice. He is now 89 years old.

Verna May lost Frank, the love of her life in December 2020 of Cancer. In January 2022 at age of 92, Verna Mae had a massive stroke and had to go to the Tullahoma, Tennessee, Hospital. She has been transferred to NHC in Tullahoma, where she had been undergoing Physical Therapy. Unfortunately, Verna Mae has caught the COVID Virus, but she is still trying to keep up her spirits at this time. She has been coughing, and had a fever of 102, but she is feeling better at the moment. We are praying she pulls through. Her son and granddaughter are staying with her, and they both have alternated being her full time care givers ever since Frank died. All we can do is pray Verna Mae pulls through. Verna Mae is the Author of the Book, “ Blackie …the Angel Cow.” We are going to hold on to hope, that Blackie the Angel Cow and her parents-Wilma and Earl, as well as her husband Frank and all that have from the wonderful Marble Plains Church family will look down from Heaven…. and watch over Verna Mae.

Verna Mae Weaver Ernst age 92 was born to Earl Weaver and Wilma Snell in Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee.

To us ,Verna Mae was not only a brilliant Arthur , who wrote poems for us to say on Childrens Day at Church, and a woman of incredible grace and moral fortitude, she was also a devoted and loving wife, a supportive and adoring mother, and a woman who always put "God and family first," "She was our guiding light who lit up our lives with infinite love and wonder. Her smile was healing, her hugs the warmest refuge, and her laughter was infectious. We could always turn to her for wisdom and solace and her absence feels like a giant hole in our family and our hearts,"   "Although she is no longer here with us in this realm, her beautiful soul will continue to guide and inspire us. She will live on in us, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren — in every belly laugh, every curious inquiry, every act of compassion and kindness," the family added. "Her legacy will live on in the world, continuing to inspire not only with her incredible body of work through her Books, " Down Memory Lane", " Blackie the Cow", and her many poems, or writings, but even more so with her humanity. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to every single one of you for the outpouring of love . So many have been touched by my Aunts extraordinary life, her unwavering sense of decency and respect and love for people. Her faith in humanity never faltered, so know that for all the love you've shown her, she loved you back."

Verna Mae was a Church Historian for Marble Plains Church for over 60 years. She married Frank Henry Ernst from Tullahoma, Tennessee and they had two kids- W C Ernst , who has been her full time shared caregiver since Frank's death) & P E Ernst/ Hansen, & father of grandchildren H. Hansen. She is also survived by her two grandchildren T. Hansen and wife Sheri and her wonderful caregiver T. Hansen Chamblee and husband D. Hansen. Verna Mae is also survived by a younger sister Frances Kathalene Weaver/Solomon/Isbell and one deceased brother JC Weaver.

Verna Mae suffered a stroke two weeks before her death, which started a spiral of events that lead to her death. One of the Underlying conditions was the horrible virus going around she caught- COVID. She died peacefully at her home with her family. She was loved by all and will be missed dearly. Written by her Niece Terri Solomon/ McGhee. May She Rest In Peace.
