The land for this burying field (Old Common Cemetery) was given by Capt. Thomas Wilder, who died in 1717. He was the eldest son of Thomas Wilder, first settler of the name.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:
According to The Snow-Estes Ancestry, Mary Houghton, daughter of Ralph, married not Thomas Wilder but William Bentley. It also gives her birth year as 1653. The Snow-Estes Ancestry, published in 1939. Page 361.
Connecticut Nutmegger 7:627 also provides info about the erroneous marriage info for Thomas Wilder marrying (incorrectly) Mary Houghton, which should have been Mary Wheeler, according to the author who researched it extensively, it sounds.
The marriage record for this date in Lancaster is Mary houghton in brackets. However the marriage is also listed under Houghton. The only plausible explanation i have is that some researcher made a mistake although there is always the possibility of an earlier unrecorded mariage.
